Canada advises to avoid non-essential travel outside of Canada until further notice.
Travel to Canada | COVID-19
Many foreign countries have strict restrictions on travel in the global pandemic. Hence, some Canadian citizens or residents may not be able to return for an undetermined period. Government advises Canadians to travel with personal safety and security. Such restrictions can prevent their return to Canada. Because government of Canada is not planning to facilitate additional flights to bring Canadians home in the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you are outside Canada:
- Check commercial options, if any and return as soon as possible
- Also, register with Registration of Canadians Abroad. Because it will help the consular officials to provide updates and confirm your situation
- Follow local media and advice from local authorities
- Make sure you have the necessities if you are unable to move out of your accommodation
- Ensure your passport is valid for next 6 months
- Check if have a valid travel insurance to cover your medical treatment. In case you get infected with COVID-19 or extend stay outside Canada, your medical needs should be covered.
- Contact your family and friends.
Your health and travel during the pandemic
Before you travel:
- Be aware about the health risks for your destination and read the COVID-19 travel health notice
- Visit the Government of Canada and follow the recommended health precautions
- Check World Health Organization’s advice for the public.
During your travel:
- Avoid large crowds
- Avoid contact with sick people , especially if they have a cough , fever or difficulty in breathing
- Wash your hands often with soap for 20 seconds and use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if water is not available.
- Take precautions against respiratory illness and seek medical attention if you become sick.
Help for Canadians outside Canada

Returning to Canada
If you plan to return to Canada, make sure you check the federal and provincial public health authorities travel requirements. This may include, but not limited to, quarantine (self-isolation) for 14 days.
